Georgien Spezial / Georgia Special
Georgia will be in Berlin from 19 to 21 October, at Markthalle Neun! A country that extends from the Black Sea coast to the Caucasus Mountains is bound to be diverse. But what truly makes Georgia one of the most exciting countries in the world is its rich culinary history and culture.
Not only because of its 8,000-year-old viniculture with its typical earthenware vessels, that is currently experiencing a renaissance. On top of that, the country is a gastronomic paradise with incredibly aromatic avours and ingenious food preservation methods.
For this event, initiated by the Auswärtiges Amt/German Federal Foreign Office and implemented by “Germany – Land of Ideas,” we invited contemporary Georgian chefs to take us on a culinary journey to the land where pomegranates grow on trees.
STREET FOOD THURSDAY Thursday, October 19th, 5–10 P.M.
At a Georgian festive meal, a so-called supra, one dish is served after another. We are hosting a street food supra with various delicacies that you can sample, from khinkali, the Georgian answer to dumplings, and khachapuri, a bread lled with so much cheese that it could be called a hearty cheesecake, to pkhali (vegetable and walnut pastes), and many different herbs.
FARMER’S MARKET Friday, October 20th 12 noon – 6 P.M. and Saturday, October 21st 10 A.M.–6 P.M.
Spices, walnut and plum sauces, nuts coated with grape must, wine, and many other Georgian specialities: our weekly market extends around 3,000 kilometres to the southeast! Once you have developed a taste for these delicacies and want to explore more, you can take part in natural wine and cheese tastings or join a cooking class for kids and adults hosted by our Georgian guests.
