Côte Chalonnaise

The second stop of my Burgundy-Tour takes me to the “Côte Chalonnaise” wine region. The approximately 4.000 hectares of appellation is more known for rural/ country wines. In the five classified AOP locations Bouzeron, Rully, Mercurey, Givry, Montagny, preferably around 70% more Pinot Noir and Gamay red wines are produced. Here in Côte Chalonnaise are no Grand Cru locations legally predetermined. The wines here, do not have to hide in comparison to various well-known neighborhood regions. (AOP = Appellation d’Origine Protégée = French & European protection of geographic products)

The “Vignerons de Buxy” are located in the same named provincial town “Buxy”, where the wine cellar and the associated wine shop has its headquarter. Here I meet Mrs. O. Reznik from the association “La Compagnie de Burgondie“. A strictly scheduled and busy wine day is approaching. After a short but heartfelt hello and welcome followed an extensive visit to the cellar, taste a winetasting with 30 wines of the current vintages and a trip outside to visit the top Premier Cru vineyards of the cooperative.

The Cellar

The Cave des Vignerons de Buxy was created thanks to the determination of the Côte Chalonnaise winegrowers to pool the talents in a common project. The story behind this adventure is one of a human an social endevour stretching back over 80 years.

What really greatly admired me during my visit at Vignerons de Buxy, is the living Ethical approach since 1931. The vignerons de Buxy are one of the first in Burgundy to engage in the Wine Growers in sustainable Development approach. This brand ensures a level of respect for the environment and regional social impact on economic development, from the vineyard to the consumer.

The maxim of  Vignerons de Buxy

Winegrowers in Sustainable Development
Respecting – Observing – Guiding – Anticipating

Transmit this as a living Heritage to our children

With this maxim, the more than 120 winemakers of the Vignerons de Buxy vouch for a sustainable wine culture philosophy. As a result, the “rural/ country” Region Côte Chalonnaise in southern Burgundy is very modern.

Merci beaucoup!

Die Maxime von Vignerons de Buxy

Winzer und Weinbauer in nachhaltiger Entwicklung
Respektieren – Beobachten – Leiten – Vorwegnehmen

Merci beaucoup!
